As part of the Microsoft Games With Gold program, the Xbox 360 version of Sid Meier’s Civilization: Revolution will be made available at no charge to all Xbox Live Gold Subscribers next month. This announcement was apparently confirmed via official sources linked with the WorthPlaying account on Twitter. WorthPlaying have previously been responsible for breaking the news that Dead Island would be a free game in February, an announcement that was later supported by Microsoft spokesperson; Major Nelson. .

In traditional Sid Meier style, the RTS allows players to develop their own nations and armies with a view to conquering neighbouring states by whatever means necessary. The game received a positive critical reception upon release in 2008 and has since been ported to DS, Windows Phone and iPad. Civilization: Revolution will be the latest free offering to Gold subscribers from Microsoft since the scheme was launched at E3 last summer. Highlights have so far included Fable III, Gears of War, Halo 3 and Assassin’s Creed 2.

Games With Gold offers 2 free games each month and players will usually have 14-15 days to redeem each title on their Xbox Live account. Once a free game is purchased, it can then be downloaded and played indefinitely, regardless of Gold subscription status.

Meanwhile, Sony have confirmed that European PlayStation Plus subscribers can look forward to the following bonuses next month. Tomb Raider and Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons for PS3, Pixeljunk Monsters Ultimate HD and Smart As for Vita and Dead Nation for PS4 will all be free of charge starting from the 5th of March. We’re saying nothing…

Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms due for 2014

bitComposer and Games Farm today announced Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms, a new action RPG is to be released on PC in 2014. In Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms, the mortal realm is on the brink of destruction, with humanity’s only hope resting in the hands of a soul-devouring demon.

Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms
Following the events of hack ’n’ slash RPG Kult: Heretic Kingdoms, a dark shadow has once again fallen over the world. The core element of Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms is its internally conflicted main character and the associated unique party system. Players must assume the role of the Devourer, a mighty demon who can travel back and forth between the human and shadow world, devouring the souls of his enemies. Seamlessly switching between the Devourer and up to three party members, each with their own special abilities, provides strategic depth in battle, while switching between worlds also allows players to outwit their opponents in battle, avoiding traps and solving puzzles along the way.

A shadow lies across the world, and the Devourer is the only one who can defeat this rising threat. It is now up to players to decide whether they save the world from this dark threat or leave it to its fate.

WANT! Road Legal Tumbler!

Does anyone happen to have £1m (or £728,544)I could borrow… permanently… without paying it back? That’s how much it’d cost for what is quite possibly the coolest vehicle available… next to a Tron Light Cycle.

Road Legal Batman Tumblr

Yes kids… we shit you not! You can actually buy a road-legal Tumbler from Batman Begins! Granted, the cost is insane (compared to the road-legal light cycles which retail for about $55,000) but how much cooler is this!?

Created from Lamborghini parts and gloriously tax exempt, here’s a description from the seller, JamesEdition.com:

[blockquote]“This concept vehicle features an LS1 motor with a custom built frame, chassis and drive line. It has an automatic transmission, dually rear end featuring FOUR 44″ super swamper tires with custom rims!

It has a custom cut windows, seating for two, 5 driver assist cameras, Double den stereo with blue tooth, CD/DVD, iPod integration for all of your entertainment needs. This vehicle also features GPS Navigation worldwide as well as a custom interior. It is a limited edition of only 5 worldwide!

We have built this insane vehicle to be street legal however please understand that this is not a daily driver!”[/blockquote]

Screw a Bugatti Veyron… I want one of these… and I’d love to see Top Gear‘s Stig rag this around a track a few times! The only thing it’s missing is the built-in Batpod.

Half Price Saints Row IV!

Deep Silver Week

Those wonderful people over at the Humble Bundle Store bring us great games for amazingly low prices on a regular basis for PC, Mac and mobile platforms. Of course usually they bring us collections of Indie titles but from time to time we get AAA deals. This week the Humble Store has had the Deep Silver Week. They have titles from the Metro series, Dead Island series and also the Saints Row series.

The highlights of the sale have to be the staggeringly entertaining Saints Row IV being sold at a measly £14.99 (50% discount), the highly rated post apocalypse FPS Metro: Last Light for £7.49 (70% discount) and the first person action RPG Dead Island: Riptide for £9.99 (50% discount).

I had a SR IV-shaped hole in my game collection that I have now gratefully plugged so you’ll have to excuse me whilst I go and kick politics right in the balls.

Mike N’ Nick’s Gentlemanly Chats ep 8: A Wild Richie Appeared!

This week we get into an aural threeway with genius mastermind, fellow writer and good pal Richie Janukowicz (No relation to the Ukraine President, I asked) . We talk following your dreams, not being a chef and just how bemused Nick is when out of his depth intellectually.

Indie puzzle platformer Teslagrad is coming to PS3, Wii U and Vita this Summer

Norwegian indie developer Rain Games have announced that their latest platforming adventure title ‘Teslagrad’ will be released on console formats later this year. These ports follow a successful Steam launch for PC, Mac and Linux, a Metacritic review score of 78/100 and almost universal praise at last year’s industry events such as Seattle PAX Prime and London EGX.

Teslagrad uses hand drawn artwork to create a 2D world where puzzles are solved using electromagnetism. Players take on the role of a young and vulnerable boy forced to reveal the secret a mysterious and long-forgotten tower after finding himself at the centre of a dangerous conspiracy. The Steampunk-inspired environments and haunting soundtrack compliment the backdrop of a totalitarian dictatorship where players will need to devise creative and unique solutions in order to survive.

I played a developer demo of this game at EGX last year and found the puzzles to some of the most clever and imaginative that I have come across since Braid.

The Wii U and PS3 ports will be released this Spring with the Vita release set for later in the Summer. The game is also available to PC, Mac and Linux users now on Steam for the price of £6.99, €8.99, or $9.99 in the US and Canada.

Valar Morghulis: New Teasers Reveal New Conflict for Game of Thrones

0

If anyone has perfected the art of twisting the waiting game into a horribly excruciating experience, it’s HBO. Fans around the world are on the edge of their seats, eager and desperate for any new glimpses of information regarding the highly anticipated fourth season of Game of Thrones. HBO certainly delivers. Another instalment of teasers were released by the network yesterday, showcasing the troupe of fan favourites: Daenerys, Tyrion, and the litter of remaining Starks.

This season, in particular, seems to be focusing on the (slightly eerie) High Valyrian phrase, “Valar Morghulis”, translated into the Common Tongue, “All Men Must Die”. The twenty new character posters unveiled along with the teasers all echo the same phrase. Though, as is true to HBO, they refuse to give us any clear details on the upcoming season, but they haven’t left us completely high and dry. From the information we’re given, the major issues become clear concerning the subjects of each trailer, despite how vague they may be.

Tyrion

Over the past two seasons, we’ve seen Tyrion’s control of his own fate slip steadily from his grasp. The world is moving quickly all around him, and this upcoming season proves to be another, rather dangerous misstep for everyone’s favorite wisecracking imp. We find him enchained and cynical as ever within the black cells beneath the Red Keep. Last time we were here it was way back in season one, and it didn’t fare well for Ned Stark. Only time will tell how and why Tyrion’s there, and what it means for the integrity of his head.

Daenerys

In Essos, the dragons are growing, and quickly. Between a rather busy schedule of conquering and ruling, Daenerys has seemingly let the discipline of her children fall through her fingers. They seem to have grown wild and unruly— which for a two year old human might be manageable, though when the subjects in question are three massive, fire-breathing reptiles, the difficulty grows exponentially. The young queen will have to reassess her priorities if she hopes to soon sail for Westeros, and reclaim the throne that was lost to her.

The Starks

Amid Westeros, the Starks are wounded and scattered, each with their own fates, but connected by their wolf blood. Jon is newly acquainted with his Brothers on the Wall with the Wildling forces eminent, while in the South, Littlefinger’s grip on Sansa seems to be tightening. Arya is out for blood, but still in the company of the hound despite her vow to slay him; Bran continues North in search of the Three Eyed Crow, and even less is known of Rickon’s whereabouts. In the wake of the Red Wedding, the fate of the Starks seems bleak, but will the wolves return again, ravenous for the blood of those who betrayed them? We’ll have to wait and see.

The resounding message is clear, however, if you think the death, destruction, and utter pain of the Red Wedding was unbearable, you’re in for a horrendous wake up call. There’s definitely more to come.

Hellblazer short film shows how to get John Constantine right.

0

453720403_640

John Constantine, after appearing in Saga of the Swamp Thing, was the main focus of the long running and critically acclaimed mature readers title Hellblazer from Vertigo which ran for 300 issues before it was cancelled in order to make way for Constantine, the DC New 52 home of the character.

Ever since the announcement of NBC’s Constantine show there’s been speculation as to whether it would live up to the character’s origins or make John and the world he inhabits a more mainstream affair. Whilst these questions will only be answered when the pilot airs, Harry Locke IV of Code 10 Studios and a team of others recently put together a non-profit short film inspired by Hellblazer’s ‘In at the deep end’ story by Andy Diggle and it completely nails the tone and mannerisms of both John Constantine (played by Robbie Allen) and the shadowy world he inhabits.

Who else thinks these guys could do well with proper funding?

The Defenders Will Fight Crime In New York.. No Really

0

An interesting partnership between Marvel, Disney and Netflix is set to bring us an exciting amount of nerdgasms in the upcoming future, or so we heard last year when it was announced that four separate (but linked) 13-part series were to be made featuring Daredevil, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage (AKA The Defenders) followed by a crossover series spanning eight episodes.

Defenders-610x285

It was recently announced that a tax deal has been made for the producers of the upcoming shows to allow them to shoot in New York. This means that instead of constructing dark alleyways and filthy streets on some set in Canada they can film authentic dark alleyways and filthy streets in the actual city of New York without breaking the bank. Alan Fine, President, Marvel Entertainment had this to say:

“We thank the Governor and the great state of New York for helping us create the ultimate backdrop to this epic series. Setting our production in New York City truly underscores the authenticity and excitement we plan to bring to The Defenders and their ‘flawed heroes of Hell’s Kitchen’ stories,”

The project seems promising, and is yet another reason to join the Church Of Netflix, where all are invited to binge-watch excellence in plenty.

The Console Wars to be Written by Seth Rogen

The lovable Canadian Seth Rogen, and his writing partner in crime Evan Goldberg look set to pen a film looking at ‘The Console Wars’. The Console Wars for those who don’t know happened between the 1980’s and 1990’s between Japanese companies Nintendo and Sega. It was a golden time for the young gamers, Nintendo brought out the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1983 and shortly after came Super Mario Bros. in 1985, one of the best-ever selling games of all time. Trying not to be outdone SEGA introduced their first home console in 1983 with the SG-100 and thus the console wars were born. Both companies trading blow for blow throughout the years, the SNES against the Sega Mega Drive, the Nintendo 64 against the Playstation.

Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg

This won’t be the first time that Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg have collaborated. The pair worked closely together on films like, ‘This is the End‘ and ‘Superbad‘. They’ve also traversed the realms of graphic novel adaptation with their re-imagining of ‘The Green Hornet‘. The film’s script will be written by the pair based upon Blake J. Harris’s upcoming non-fiction book, ‘Console Wars: Sega, Nintendo and the Battle that Defined a Generation.’

Sony Pictures and The Social Network’s Scott Rudion are developing the project, whilst Rogen and Goldberg will also direct the film. The author of the book that spawned this idea, Harris, will serve as a producer on the film following the hundreds of interviews he did to get an in-depth look at the rivalry.

At the moment there are very few details about the up-coming project, there are yet to be any rumours about who could be starring in this possible ‘geek-gasm’ of a film or when the film could be released. All we know is, we can’t wait to see it.
