Science says gaming is good for you, check out this infographic!

Releasing the image is far to small to be appreciated on facebook I decided to post it here. Mainly because the creator, FrugalDad,  encourages it. So here it is, a handy infographic excusing the hours and hours you while away shooting, bashing, hijacking, outwitting and racing a variety of opponents instead of doing the important stuff you should be doing like err sleeping?:

Comicbook Roundup (24/10/12)

0

AvX, because there’s always room for one more spinoff, continues in AvX Babies One-Shot, in which Lil’ Cyclops steals Baby Cap’s beloved Bucky Bear. Adorable hilarity ensues. Meanwhile, the grownups in AvX Consequences #2 are no longer duking it out, although what with Cyclops taking down a gang of prison inmates hell-bent on killing him, plus mentoring a brand new mutant, they’re really setting him up to be the new Magneto.

A long-absent character finally returns in Avengers #32 and does everything in her power to remind fans why they wanted her gone in the first place. Still, her enthusiasm is infectious, and I’m looking forward to seeing her back in action. Iron Man decides, after much self-reflection, to spend some time in the cold void of space in Invincible Iron Man #527.

Fan-favourite Wolverine stars in new ongoing Wolverine Max #1. What’s it like? I hear you sigh wistfully, looking up at me with your sweet, innocent eyes. Well let me start with the good news: it’s pretty much your standard Wolverine comic, but with the word “fuck” thrown in like sultanas in a curry- a useless addition that distracts from the real flavour. Wolverine gets amnesia. Yup. First issue of a new, more grown-up Wolverine comic and they decided to combine the groundbreaking elements of Wolverine and memory loss. But that’s not the worst bit. The worst thing, by far, is the art.

Pictured: a deformed Neanderthal attacking racism

I shall spare you the picture of a bristly Logan giving a naked woman a rather vigorous cuddle- that’s not even a euphemism, they’re positioned so they physically can’t be having sex unless she has a ridiculously deep belly button. (I am so, so sorry for that sentence. So sorry.) The cartoon sweat drops give it a Carry On vibe, which is most definitely NOT what I expected and doesn’t deserve its association with the excellent Punisher Max and Deadpool Max. Go read Wolverine #315 instead; there’s less swearing, but at least you won’t have to take a bleach shower after reading it.

Remember that time I said it wasn’t such a big deal that Fantastic Four got cancelled because they still had FF? Me too, good times. So FF #23 is apparently the final issue, though it does a much more moving job of rounding off the series than Fantastic Four. Future Franklin Richards (long story) must go back to his own time, but not before getting in some quality time and a heartfelt farewell to the Four. Captain America #19 is also a moving final issue, with Steve Rogers vowing never to abandon the mantle of Captain America again. The effect of this is slightly diluted, however, by the ad directly following writer Ed Brubaker’s “thank you and goodnight” letter: a full-pager proudly proclaiming that THIS NOVEMBER, Cap will go to a different dimension in… CAPTAIN AMERICA #1! Deadpool #63? Also a final issue being re-released in November.

All this cancellation and re-starting is, of course, the start of Marvel NOW! For those unfamiliar with Marvel NOW! it’s basically exactly the same as DC’s New 52, but only affecting about a third of the Marvel universe, and with a slightly catchier title. Personally, I’m not fond of it. Not because of the re-start aspect of it, but because that damn exclamation mark confuses my computer and makes it start auto-capitalising stuff. Damn you Marvel NOW!, damn you to the depths of Limbo.

Batman’s been a busy bee this week, what with facing off against Scarecrow in Batman: The Dark Knight #13 and trying to bring down Leviathan in Batman Incorporated #4. Both comics are fantastic- Scarecrow’s past is revealed a little, and the picture drawn for him by the kidnapped child manages to be both heartwarming and horrifying. Batman Incorporated -yes, all of them- team up, the main players being Knight, Squire, Nightwing, Batwing, Robin (sorry, “Redbird”), Red Robin, a British guy who looks suspiciously like Azrael, and mysterious newcomer Wingman- whose identity caused so many fangirlish squees to come out of my mouth that I may have had my very own Canary Cry for a second there. Elsewhere in Gotham, Talon begins his quest to take down the Court of Owls that Batman lost interest in in Talon #1, reminding us that even a series in which Batman doesn’t appear is basically all about Batman.

Teen Titans #13 gives us the origin of Wonder Girl; whilst I’m a little annoyed that they didn’t put that as a #0 flashback last month, preferring instead to give us The Story of Tim because eight Bat-comics just aren’t enough, it’s a damn good story, and the appearance of the Mark of Trigon hints that perhaps Raven could be joining the Titans soon. Needless to say, I did the Canary Cry again. Meanwhile, Superman bench-presses the weight of the planet, quits the Daily Planet with a speech about Truth, Justice and the American Way, then gets thrown all the way to Ireland by an angry Kryptonian dinosaur in Superman #13. Suck it, Bats. The Flash #13 has the title ‘Gorilla Warfare’ and stars fan-favourite villain Gorilla Grodd, a character I’m convinced was only invented so they could use the title ‘Gorilla Warfare’. Flash must work together with the Rogues to take down Grodd, but the real shining moment is when a very familiar-looking bystander flees from the scene- I squeed so hard I Canary Cried a third time and broke a window.

Alien space zombies attack in Red Lanterns #13, proving once and for all that all the Guardians don’t know what the hell they’re doing and should really just stop with this whole “policing the universe” thing. Seriously, if you can’t see the downside to releasing a bunch of creatures who assimilate every living being into part their emotionless hive-mind, then possibly galactic peacekeeping is not for you.

Not pictured: justice.

Cosplay Interview # 2 Monika Lee

Our second Cosplayer of this interview series is from the States (U S A.. U S A), is called Monika and, like Svetlana before her, has a wide variety of very detailed, well thought out and hand made costumes; from Little Sister (Bioshock), to Rogue from X-Men.

 [nggallery id=16 template=dop-thumbnail-gallery]

So what’s with the username London2191? Random or does it have a background story?

Haha, the story behind my “username” is really dumb and random. I was an avid Neopets player back in the day and I guess I just lacked any creativity when it came to choosing a username. So I thought, there’s a girl in my class who’s British so…London and then I closed my eyes and finger mashed some numbers. That’s the gloriously dumb story behind my username, haha.

You currently study a Georgia Tech, doing ‘Industrial design’ What does that entail? Is it something you think you could go on to make a career out of?

Industrial Design is under the College of Architecture here at Tech. It essentially involves the design process of products and making innovative items fit for the market and general population. It’s very similar to Mechanical Engineering, but I like to think we get to do the fun stuff. Most of the things you use daily were designed by an Industrial Designer (for example, iPhones, kitchen utensils, tools, etc.) Not quite sure where it’s going to take me yet, but I love it so far!

Can you tell us a bit more about the person behind the costume? What do you do for a laugh, what sort of music, games and books you into? Are you a PC, Xbox or PS3 Gal? Got any awesome pets? Collect anything? Got a boyfriend?

When I’m not working on cosplay stuff (which is not often…haha), I’m here at Tech! I do like to cook in my spare time, though, and I love music, video games and reading. I own a PS3 and a Macbook Pro, but I do have some old school gaming devices (Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, N64). I have 2 fish that are near death right now…but that’s mostly my fault because I haven’t cleaned their tank in awhile…haha. But aside from that, I generally just game and eat delicious food! I think that sort of thing repels boys…

You say you like food, what sort is your favourite and are you any good at cooking yourself?

I like eating Chinese food because my dad is Chinese and cooks for us all the time. I also like Mexican because I’m addicted to spicy deliciousness! I also loooove to cook, though most of my cooking is super unhealthy and loaded with fattyness, haha.

Is Cosplay / Modelling something you want to do as a career or is it just a fun hobby?

I don’t think cosplay can ever truly be a career (unless someone out there is willing to pay us cosplayers to dress up! Haha), so it’s really just a great hobby for me. It lets me express myself creatively and at the end of the day, I just love making things!

Cosplay

How long have you been Cosplaying for and what got you into it?

I’ve been cosplaying since 2006. I had recently gotten immersed in the anime community, and through that I stumbled upon cosplay.

You seem to have a lot of awards on your page, are these all for cosplay outfits? I’m guessing you make them yourself?

When I first started cosplaying, I was really big into cosplay competitions. In order to enter those, you have to create everything yourself, so I’ve been making all my own costumes since I started out.

You’ve Cosplayed with some of the big name of the business, Jessica Nigri and Yaya Han. Is there a bit of rivalry between you guys or do you all get on?

Haha, we’re all just really great friends. Both girls are extremely talented and have amazing personalities and I love hanging out with them, regardless of whether or not we’re at a convention cosplaying.

What has been your most favourite Con so far and your best Con Experience?

Without a doubt, my favourite con is always Dragon*Con each year. I usually have an amazing time at any convention, regardless, just hanging out with my friends.

What Costume did you like wearing / Making the most?

I recently completed my Diablo Wizard this past August and I had a blast making it. I like making any costume with a cool design, though.

Any cool costumes in the Pipeline?

Possibly! I’m thinking Borderlands 2 maybeee and a bunch of other things.

Is there any costume that you would love to do but just don’t think you could pull it off?

I would loooove to do Fran from Final Fantasy XII, but the armor is just too daunting a task for me!

General Questions

What does Geek Pride (not the awesome website and Facebook page but the way of life) mean to you?

My whole family is geeky and I’ve been raised as a “geek”, not really knowing anything else. However, I’ve been lucky in that I’ve never been bullied for the nerdy things I’ve liked, only regarded as kind of weird. I think “Geek Pride” is important because it means we all get to be passionate about nerdy things. However, I don’t think that means we shouldn’t be inclusive to people who are not as nerdy or geeky as we might be.

You have been given one super power, what would it be and what would you use it to do?

I’d want a Portal Gun on my arm! And I’d just portal back and forth from my house to conventions because I’m impatient and hate taking long flights, haha

Lord of the rings or Star Wars and why?

Wait, not Star Wars v. Star Trek? Hmmm, maybe Star Wars because the Hobbit is too long to read and Elijah Wood’s scenes in LOTR are so emo! But I prefer Howard Shore’s soundtrack over John Williams. They’re both great!

Anything else you want to say.

Marvel release the official Ironman 3 trailer

0

Phase 2 of the Marvel film universe is well under way with the unveiling of the first official trailer for Ironman 3, due for release on the 3rd May 2013. All indications are that things aren’t looking good for Tony and it seems he is having a hard time coming down from all the Avengers malarkey and the bad guys are getting personal with an attack on his home.

The story is loosely based on the Extremis story arc by Warren Ellis and Adi Granov hailed as one of the best loved Ironman story arcs. With the formidable Ben Kingsley playing the villain Mandarin, the trailer hints at a much darker story with Tony clearly struggling to maintain control and dealing with his nightmares  as well as being attacked from more than one problem. I won’t speculate anymore but I will leave you with the synopsis to dissect, the all important trailer for you to ponder and some newly released images to peruse.

The synopsis reads:

Marvel Studios’ “Iron Man 3” pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

FYI Mandarin seems to have a Captain America shield tattooed on his neck, but what does it mean?

Dust and Sand – Chapter 16 – By Sean P. Wallace

Chapter 16

Father Kilkenny was checking his precious cargo when the news came.

The item was stored in a dark ironwood box, having displaced his personal valuables as soon as the Father had taken possession of it. After making certain no-one was near, he slowly knelt by his bed and slid this box out from behind the tattered leather suitcase he’d once moved in with. Gently, he placed the box on his bed and brushed his hand along its surface – a sweet, smooth and varnished affair with no ornamentation – and whispered a prayer to quieten what lay inside. Only his Bible had ever been treated with more reverence.

Though there was no outward response, Father Kilkenny felt his prayer had been heard and so opened the box carefully. Inside was the Word, this powerful artefact that could do great good or great evil. For now, thankfully, it could do nothing.

The Father checked it for any signs of metamorphosis and could feel it looking back at him, a bright, unblinking eye. White as an angel’s wing, the Word was a gem and a seed both. Tendrils snaked off from its central, multi-faceted hub and wormed along the box’s velvet interior, seeking an exit to grow into. It put the Father in mind of a spider squatting at the centre of a living web. The Word smelled strongly of shoe polish, of all things, so strong that he could taste it. And every few seconds it would absorb the light round it, turning his room dark, as though the sun had sunk behind storm clouds. When this darkness fell Father Kilkenny swore he heard whispering in a language he was glad he didn’t know.

It was no different to before, which the Father took as a good sign.

This was what he was protecting as fervently as his flock, what those damned harriers were willing to kill for. Or, rather, those who were employing them. Just looking at the Word filled him with a renewed sense of purpose; anything this important to the demons of the Badlands must be kept from them.

And it could only have been the Lord’s will that led the Father to becoming its guardian. Less than a handful of people in the Badlands would have even known what a Word was, let alone how to quell it as he had; even he’d only recognised it because of a brief description in the ‘Assorted Scrolls of Rome’. And surely no-one else would have taken that girl into their protection and not misused what she carried.

The Father closed the box and crossed himself. That poor, poor girl. She had arrived at the witching hour and was so weak that he wouldn’t have heard her knocking if he hadn’t been cleaning his pews at the time. After a brief check to see who or what had come calling – he had been careful even then of what the Badlands might send against him – he had given her sanctuary. She’d been a tired and wretched thing with her story and her begging. A long journey and the horrors she had witnessed had taken a vicious toll on her slight frame and she had shivered constantly as she talked.

But somehow she’d had this Word with her. From what she’d said, it was one of the most powerful ones ever made. And that made its protection almost as important as that of every soul in Crucifix.

Almost.

Then someone knocked on his door. It was a hurried knock. Maybe even panicked. Father Kilkenny slid the Word back under his bed.

“Just one second!” he called.

He pushed his suitcase back in front of it and stood to examine how well he’d hidden his cargo. When he was confident that it was out of sight, he answered the door.

It was Mary, his fainting parishioner. Her tired but still pretty face was as white as… well, as that Word, and her lower lip trembled as she said “Father, some people have ridden into town. Strangers. They look like real hard-cases”

The Father swallowed. It could be the harriers, here early. Though they would have probably run in guns blazing and he heard no shooting…

“One of them…” Mary stopped, looked around and then leant in and whispered “One of them is the Wanted Man.”

“Are you sure?” He couldn’t keep the incredulity from his voice.

Thankfully this didn’t offend Mary. She might just have been relieved that someone else found the situation ludicrous. “I am. I’m no fool, despite what people think; he has Noose, the gun that only kills demons. He wore it as he rode in with two… associates. I’ve never seen a gun so fancy. It has to be him.”

The Father considered that flimsy evidence. It still felt more likely that the harriers were up to something; after all, no-one in Crucifix had seen their faces.

But he said “Alright, don’t worry, I’ll handle this.”

Mary started to chew her lip. “He’s right out on main street, Father.”

Father Kilkenny straightened his back, cricked his neck from one side to the other and mentally prepared himself to hurt someone. “Well then, how about we go and have a word with him?” he asked.

Mary gave him a small smile and her tense body relaxed.

He left the chapel with Mary following behind like a little sister and found the whole town watching three strangers walk down Crucifix’s main street, mostly from the relative safety of their houses. They were curious, his flock; strangers rolling into town would be news even during good times. And given the troubles recently, this ‘Wanted Man’ and his two female companions were lucky they hadn’t been lynched.

It was surprising to see two women with the so-called Wanted Man. That heartened Father Kilkenny straight away; though he hadn’t seen the harriers, he’d heard their voices and none had been female. One of the strangers was young, in her twenties at most. She looked as prim and proper as a lady can after travelling through the Badlands. But the gun across her back was powerful and expensive so not for show. The other was an Indian warrior with savage eyes and spells and runes around her body that Father Kilkenny recognised right away.

Hard-cases seemed about right. The Father stepped out of his chapel, his fingers flexing. Mary stayed inside, almost cowering. He couldn’t blame her.

He stared at ‘the Wanted Man’. Maybe six feet tall, he dressed like a traveller; trail pack, worn boots and decent clothes. A wide-brimmed hat rested on his head but it was tilted back, presumably so as to not be menacing. His face was travel-worn, poorly-shaven and hard as rock. Whoever he was, he was a fighter; slight scars speckled his neck and cheek and one of his ears was missing some flesh.

What mattered was the bigger of the two guns on his hip; if anything looked like it deserved the name ‘Noose’, it was that thing. Custom-made, the gun was practically a cannon with so many densely-packed runes and spells on its body that it would crush any demons it bludgeoned, let alone shot. And they were ‘good’ spells too, many of the same runes that the Father used. Not that this was conclusive evidence of who he was; you could never trust anything that came from the Badlands.

“Howdy Father,” the man said.

“Howdy,” Father Kilkenny replied without warmth.

They stared at each other for a moment, the lonely sounds of a hollowed-out town all that passed between them. The Father got to take a measure of this man then; his eyes did not waiver, his attention did not falter, so he did not mind the silence or the scrutiny. That, at least, spoke for something.

It was he who broke the silence. “We’re looking for someone taken by a cult a few days ago.”

The sheer serendipity of the situation almost stunned him into showing his hand; Father Kilkenny had to stop himself blurting out “The Virgin Mary?” But he had enough presence of mind to suck air through his teeth and say “Who might that be?”

“Penelope Chalmers,” the young lady cut in. “Daughter of Senator Chalmers.”

The ‘Wanted Man’ hardened on hearing the girl’s name, worry for her overcoming his poker face. “She had an army escort through the Badlands but it was ambushed. We think it happened around here because Shadows Fade,” he gestured to the Indian woman with his thumb, “fought something nearby that had used their bodies. We were hoping you folks might know something.”

Father Kilkenny cleared his throat. He had to tread carefully here. “Are you from the Solution?” he asked.

“We are.”

“Are you the Wanted Man?”

“I am.”

“Prove it.”

“Beg pardon?”

Father Kilkenny wanted to clear his throat again but that would show weakness; there was an opportunity to be had here if he played his cards right. “I asked you to prove who you are; many people claim to be the Wanted Man but only one can prove it. So prove it. You could be a cultist or a harrier for all I know.”

Gameovercast – Podcast Eps 115 ….Featuring me! (mature language)

Great Podcast brought to us by local Manc podcasters : Gameovercast…. made all the better because I’m being interviewed near the end, so if you don’t want to hear my dulcet, Irish tones, then stop listening about 1hr 12mins in ;oD

A podcast about games, not a review cast, not a preview cast, and not something based around the editorial of a magazine or a website. It is in fact 4 friends who have spent a large portion of their lives playing computer games way of venting our views about games, the industry and the public perception of gaming in general. It is occasionally funny, occasionally insightful, occasionally informative but hopefully always entertaining.

Hello and welcome to episode 115 of the GameOverCast!

This week Jay(kind of), Radarhead, Gibson, Major Tom and Nijinsky bring you their redundant opinions on all the games.

The show opens with Gibson and Radar recapping on their experience at Play Expo, we find out our beloved PJBling has been struck down with pneumonia, Radar tells about a Gaming related anime he has been watching, and it all goes down hill from there.

In Games we’ve been playing this week, the crew invade your ears with every aspect (bar multiplayer, d’oh) of the new Xcom game, Tom and Radar try their best to talk about the shocking events in Walking dead episode 4 without spoiling it, and Tom tells us all about the sneaky overpowered badassness of Dishonored!

News has us happy that Mechwarrior Online is making hella money before its even left Closed Beta, again questioning the point of Mass effect 3 single player DLC expanding on the already ended story and Gibson has happy times in his pants about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles coming to lego.

We then move onto a great interview with Matthew Geary from Geek-Pride.co.uk, where we discuss his Geek origins, the driving factor behind the sites existence and best of all, how he fooled his girlfriend into a relationship :).

We finish of the show by reading out an awesome email that prompts a new entry into our Gaming Hall of Fame, but mostly its about trying to get Tom to read it out in an accent :).

Enjoy!

DMC: Devil May Cry, Better The Devil You Know?

Initial reactions to Ninja Theory’s brand new take on Devil May Cry’s Dante were poor, to say the least. He came over as more of a stroppy problem child, or an emo teenager, rather than the confident, smooth operator we know and love. Fans were outraged at this thin, moody, dark haired child, and almost refused to believe he was Dante at all. However, now it has been confirmed as a reboot rather than a sequel, and this is indeed a different Dante, people finally seem to be warming to the stylish demon hunter again.

So the “Dante” that we have seen so far is a different Dante starting a new story from a parallel universe; It all seems to be going a little comic-booky. Not that this is a bad thing; it’s clear that Ninja Theory wanted the artistic licence to rebrand the game and try new things, and they have to a point, however from my impressions they haven’t deviated too far. He is still full of swagger, sarcasm and one-liners; slow him to a walk in any part of the game, and he casually ambles along, swinging his arms like Noel Gallagher on a day off, stylishly unflustered by the chaos around him. The writing, too, is equally superb. During a memorable boss fight with a gigantic witch/slug creature, it was just as much a battle of wits as it was a physical fight, as the witch screams foul obscenities each time Dante scores a hit, and he jibes back just the same, poking fun at her all the way until she crashes into a river. Dante proceeds to break her handhold and send her crashing to her death in the torrent with a cool “You know your problem? You’re too clingy.”

Towards the end of the first level, I was trapped in a collapsing church, and the closer I got to the exit, the further away it moved, thanks to the floor breaking apart and extending by some demonic power. I finally made it, smashed through the huge stained glass window in spectacular fashion, and landed on my feet, with the church crashing down behind me. Upon being asked what took him so long by his brand new partner Cat, Dante simply shrugged and replied, “It dragged on. You know….Church.” At that I was just about ready to stand up and cheer.

The last paragraph highlights Ninja Theory’s increased emphasis on the environment, how it can change in a split second, and also how Dante can affect this and use it to his advantage. In the demo’s opening, swaggers down a main street, long coat flowing behind him, and as he passes another citizen, he idly knocks a can out of their hand. As it turns out, this wasn’t the best of moves, as a CCTV camera suddenly morphs into a giant, demonic eyeball, and Dante gets pulled into another realm, where the very streets and buildings move and warp. Soon enough, a walk down the street turns into a chase scene, except what Dante is trying to escape is the city itself. Pavements shatter and fall away, buildings slam together to form dead ends, and ceilings and streets collapse in on themselves, as Dante tries to outrun and lose sight of the Demonic powers.

This setting draws a contrast to the slower, gradual transformations of normal places to something more sinister, as seen in previous games. The menacing backdrop is there from the beginning. Set in a city named “Limbo City”, it lives up to its name, as citizens shuffle along more like brain dead zombies than actual people. Once Dante draws attention to himself and the world warps around him, citizens become nothing more than shadows, and intimidating words and messages appear out of thin air. It gives the impression of some sort of Totalitarian, Demon controlled regime.

All the while, of course, Dante is hounded by all sorts of demonic enemies, of which I saw many different types during my time with the game. Fans of the series will be pleased to know that the combat is as good as ever, both in the action and the superb choreography, and follows the same basic premise. The combat is extremely fluid and easy to pick up; two button presses, and Dante was gracefully swinging his sword in huge, spinning arcs, dancing around the combat area and flinging enemies up into the sky. The traditional Combo Rank system is back as well, and while it is easy to pick up the pad and look good; if you want to get that SSS rank, you’d better work for it.

There have been two major changes to the combat this time round, however. This is in the form of Dante’s Angel and Devil powers. Just one button is used for Dante’s “normal” sword attacks, and another for his twin pistols Ebony and Ivory, but hold down either shoulder button while attacking, and Dante’s sword will transform either into the angelic Scythe, Osiris, or the hulking demonic Battleaxe, Arbiter. Switching between all 4 different forms of attack is seamless, and this makes the amount of combos possible almost never ending. Skilled players could quite easily vanquish all enemies in the fight with one long attack chain, as Dante dances, shoots and slices his way across the map.

There are a couple more new powers that also help with this, Dante can use a whip-like demonic tentacle to grab enemies and pull them towards him, similar to Nero’s Devil Bringer, and when he’s in the air, he can dash through the air at superhuman speeds, thanks to another new Angelic Power. These are not just limited to combat, they are also used to help Dante move and navigate his way around this constantly warping and shifting environment, using his whip-like power to pull out ledges from thin air, then using his angelic power to grab ledges and pull himself towards them, before dashing over impossibly large gaps in a split second.

The one thing I do wish I’d had a chance to look at in more detail was the music. For some reason there were no headphones with the preview, and the show floor was far too loud to hear much at all. Devil May Cry has always been famed for its heavy rock riffs; keeping the gothic theme running through the entire of the game. I especially loved it in the previous games when in combat, the higher the ranking someone got for a combo, the faster, louder and more frenetic the heavy metal riffs became, until they got to an A or S ranking, and Dante actually sped up, and the music was pounding, all subtly encouraging you to do better and push yourself further. I couldn’t hear anything similar this time around, but I do sincerely hope something like that returns.

All in all, DMC; Devil May Cry seems to be an excellent reboot to the long-established and well respected franchise, and it’s my opinion that long term fans should  give this new Dante a chance, he may look radically different, but just because he doesn’t have white hair doesn’t mean he should be discounted straight away, he has retained his trademark wit, and the increased emphasis on the environment and how threatening it can be, as well as superb looking and feeling combat means this is a title well worthy of anticipation. All I can say is, roll on 2013.
