Original Cast of Firefly to Voice Characters in New Game

0

firefly_1

Thursday brought some great news for Browncoats everywhere. The original cast of the hit Joss Whedon show, Firefly will be lending their voices for characters in the new game. Firefly Online is developed by Sparkplug, in conjunction with Quantum Mechanix and Fox Digital Entertainment will be based on the original show that ran from 2002-2003 and sired the 2005 movie, Serenity.

Nathan Fillion and Gina Torres will be returning to voice their original characters, Captain Malcom “Mal” Reynolds and Zoe Washburne. Alan Tyduk who played Hoban “Wash” Washburne, will voice multiple characters throughout the game.

www.Keepflying.com is currently running extremely slow due to the recent influx of traffic after the announcement at SDCC. When you look into the game itself, the dynamics seem pretty cool. The game essentially allows players to create a character that is then incorporated into the shows universe. Are you ready to enter the captains chair?

I for one am looking forward to this game as I am a hopeful Browncoat still holding out for Season 2. Check out Callum’s informative article for the game trailer and more information on the specs for the game itself. Super excited to see the cast reunited again for something that is long overdue for the shows fanbase.

Comic-Con 2014: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. News Round up & Gag Reel

0

Comic con has kicked off and that means a constant supply of geeky goodness to fill our boots. Today I am rounding up the news from the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D panel.

First lets begin with new castings Lucy Lawless was announced just a couple of days ago and during the panel it was confirmed that her character is to be Isabel Hartly, S.H.I.E.L.D. veteran. British actor Nick Blood has joined as Lance Hunter, a mercenary Coulson turns to for help and Reed Diamond (Dollhouse) cast as Daniel Whitehall and will be season’s Hydra villain, Kraken.

Excitingly it is heavily suggested that Bobbi Morse aka Mockingbird will be coming to the series. For not in the know, this hero is a former agent, who used her costumed identity to expose corrupt elements of S.H.I.E.L.D. Although not yet cast she features heavily in this teaser for season 2, fronted by the wonderful Patton Oswalt aka Agent Koenig

And if all that new information wasn’t enough we also get a gag reel, man I love bloopers.

The Walking Dead’s season 5 trailer is out!

0

We’ve all been waiting for it, practically since the end of the fourth season, which left us with more questions than answers, as damn well it should have! We all know we complain a lot, but we crave the adrenaline rush brought on by months of anticipation that culminate with the premier episode.

The newly released trailer, fresh from Comic Con, gives us a clear picture as to who the survivors of last season are (phew, Daryl is still there), but we all know that, in the world of The Walking Dead, their presence in the trailer isn’t a guarantee that they’ll make it as far as the second episode.

Feast your eyes, my friends and (don’t) hold your breath until October 12th, when the fifth season of the show will come to our screens. It definitely looks like the wait will be worth it.

New Board Game Cafe Opening in London

If there was any evidence for the growing culture of board games beyond Monopoly, this is it. Recently covered in the Guardian (follow this link for the original article) Draughts will be a licensed board game cafe, a venture from former sound engineer Toby Hamand. Soon to be opening in Hackney, London, Toby hopes to have a library of at least 500 titles for patrons to pick off the shelves and break open on the tables, all the while supping their tipple of choice or just a coffee for the teetotal. What’s more, Draughts will employ Game Gurus whose job will be to teach you any new games you want to try out, so you don’t even have to play something that you already own.

Draughts is not the first however. Opening in July 2013, Thirsty Meeples of Oxford is the first board game cafe to open in the UK. Stocking over 1700 games (oh my!) and a tasty selection of cakes, teas and coffees, this seems the ideal place to hang out after a busy morning wandering Oxford town centre.

Look at that selection!
Look at that selection!

So is this a fad that will fade, or are board game cafes here to stay? Well, judging by the success of Thirsty Meeples and the year-on-year growth of UK Games EXPO (the UK’s premier board gaming convention) this may be one trend that’s here to stay. I for one can’t think of anything better than chilling out with a couple of hot beverages, friends new and old with a board game on the table, all the while people watching between turns out the shop front window.

Firefly Online Gameplay Trailer Released

0

A gameplay trailer has just been released for the long awaited Firefly Online game. Based on the phenomenal television series from Joss Whedon, the game aims to put you in the captain’s seat while trading with and competing against millions of other players trying to make their way in the ‘verse. The aim of the game is simple: find a crew, find a job, keep flying.

Currently in development by Quantum Mechanix and Spark Plug Games we could see the game by the end of summer if Wikipedia is to be believed. The game will be released for PC, Mac, iOS and Android and while it’s not exactly the most graphically astonishing prospect to ever hit the screen, it looks like it could well be set to capture the spirit of the series.

Developers have already said that as the game evolves they hope to introduce Reavers and the ability to play as a member of the Alliance. So keep your eyes peeled for the game’s release and check out the trailer below. And make sure to watch till the very end for a very special appearance that should have any fan letting loose a most uncontrolled “squueee!”.

Hot Tub Time Machine 2 gets a trailer!

0

Now, I’m sure many of you remember the rather campy comedy that depicted the adventures of a group of friends, who due to a malfunctioning time machine, (in)conveniently located in a jacuzzi at a sky resort, are sent into their own past timeline. The adventures all centre around the fact that nothing must be changed, in order for the present they had just left behind to happen. It’s hilarious in a slapstick comedy kind of a way and it also benefited from a talented cast: John Cusack, Chevy Chase, Lyndsy Fonseca, Sebastian Stan, Craig Robinson and many more.

Whether it was the best movie ever (or not) is irrelevant as it attracted the audiences enough to warrant a sequel. With a lot of the old cast returning, but also with a few new additions: Adam Scott, Angela Kerecz, Gillian Jacobs, this time around the hot tub time machine will take the cast into the future.

You can take a look at the trailer below. Surprisingly, it looks kinda fun.

It’s all About the Chin in new Photo of Brooding Batman

0

Batman has got his brooding spot on in this new image released by DC Comics as part of the 75th Anniversary of Batman celebrations.

The first close up look of Batfleck from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice includes the furrowed brow and the small bat ears. Let’s be honest though It’s pretty much all about that chin, with Affleck’s tell tale manly cleft and that slightly unshaven look.

This image is certainly super serious and when you combine it with the gritty first look at Superman and the first image they released of Batfleck, the one where he looks either sad or sulky, it is definitely painting a picture of a dark film with all the brooding one can take.

Stan Lee Cancels San Diego Comic Con Appearance

0

Marvel legend, Stan Lee, has rather abruptly cancelled his appearances at this years San Diego Comic Con which kicked off today. The 91-year-old was scheduled for signings on the Friday and Saturday of the event, which is often regarded as one of the biggest on the convention calendar.

According to his spokesperson, Stan Lee has been struck with laryngitis and has lost his voice, therefore unable to appear at the event. However, the spokesperson stated that “Stan is otherwise well and in good health, though he is disappointed to miss the event and wishes everyone a great time.”

The former Marvel editor-in-chief has always been a big hit at conventions and made his most recent appearance at London Film and Comic Con earlier this month. He is set to appear at New York Comic Con in October, along with his own event in LA, Stan Lee’s Comikaze.

Geek Pride wish Stan a speedy recovery. Excelsior!

New Concept Art for Marvel’s Ant-Man Reveals Costume

0

Ant-Man has had a bumpy journey since it was announced, particularly with the some what controversial quitting of Edgar Wright over that ol’ classic ‘creative differences’. But things have settled down now and the film is back on track with Peyton Reed at the helm, Paul Rudd as the titular hero and Michael Douglas as Dr. Hank Pym, still working towards the 2015 summer release,

Coming out of SDCC, Marvel offers a little more reassurance with this first look at the concept art. We get to see the costume, the lead (Rudd) and his mentor (Douglas) and Ant-Man leading an army of flying ants, something that both excites me and creeps me out a little.

Lucy Lawless joins Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D!

Lucy_Lawless_by_Gage_Skidmore

After a somewhat lacklustre first half and a finale that according to the fans was definitely worth the wait, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D strives to surprise us once more, this time by bringing Lucy Lawless on board. Unfortunately the information is still scarce about what part she might portray in Marvel’s show, however, considering that the premier date for the second season is fast approaching, I’m sure that won’t be true for long.

Lucy Lawless, mostly known for starring as the titular character in Xena, Warrior Princess and for appearances in Battlestar Galactica, Spartacus: War of the Damned and many others, has proven her acting chops time and time again, which only serves to fuel the speculation when it comes to what her role might be this time around. Given that SDCC is fast approaching, that question might be answered sooner rather than later. Until then, do your best to play detective, trying to figure out her future character.

Don’t forget that the series is returning for its new season on September the 23rd, bar any delays.
