Some big news came out of San Diego Comic Con… especially if you’re a fan of Sam Raimi‘s horror work, and in particular the cult classic Evil Dead series of movies.
Sam Raimi confirmed that he and his brother Ted were working on an Evil Dead TV series, and that somehow, somewhere Bruce Campbell was going to be involved. This, in itself was enough to set the internet on a downward spiral of “OMFGWTF!” etc.
However Bruce Campbell has taken to Twitter, and in response to fan’s tweet that he should be the star, he had this to say:
Now remember that Campbell was happy to star in Evil Dead IV… and remember how long we’ve been waiting for it… and then calm yourself down.
Just because the perfect star is willing to be involved in the movie/series (Ryan Reynolds and Deadpool, anyone?), doesn’t mean that it’ll actually happen.
Still, we live in quiet hope that our dream will be fulfilled, and the King will kick some ass with his boomstick once more.
We’ve had a couple of teasers for the third film in the form of President Snow addressing the people of Panem, but in this first trailer we get to see the all important District 13. We meet President Coin played by Julianne Moore having a conversation with former Gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee, played by the late Philip Seymour Hoffman in one of his last roles. Importantly, we get to see Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) step up to become symbol for the rebellion.
The first trailer for Mad Max Fury Road, the long awaited fourth film in the Mad Max series, which is a prequel or reboot depending who you believe, just appeared and if it doesn’t get your motor running then you must be dead.
There’s trailers and then there’s this trailer which frankly makes pretty much every other trailer seen recently seem half arsed, dull and boring by comparison. One of the most immediate things is despite an over abundance of CG in modern films Fury Road looks like it’s come through a time tunnel from the 70’s, aside from some polish and embellishments everything here is practical where it matters and boy does it make a difference, also can everyone take a moment to appreciate just how much of a badass Charlize Theron looks.
This new Mad Max is once again directed ( and co-written) by George Miller, the man behind the original trilogy and features Tom Hardy taking on the role that a young Mel Gibson became synonymous with, alongside Charlize Theron as Imperator Furiosa and Nicholas Hoult as Nux. Plot details are sketchy but the trailer implies that Max starts off a captive before meeting Nux, Furiosa and her girls and they find themselves on the road trip from Hell as they race across a sun baked post apocalyptic desert.
We’ve all been waiting for it, don’t deny it. Ever since the Martells have first set foot in King’s Landing there have been speculations about who the best actors are to portray their leader and the infamous Sand Snakes. Recently the casting choices for them, as well as for other new characters that will be introduced in season 5 have been made public and at least one news made me (and many others) jump up and down with joy.

Alexander Siddig (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Da Vinci’s Demons) has been chosen to portray Doran Martell, the older brother of the very popular with the fans, Oberyn (Pedro Pascal). The actor has been fan cast for a while, particularly on social media and for once, it seems like someone paid attention.
Some of the other actors and actresses that will play his family members are: Toby Sebastian, who will star as Trystane Martell, Rosabell Laurenti Sellers, as Tyene Sand, Jessica Henwik as Nymeria Sand and Keisha Castle-Hughes as Obara Sand. Myrcella Baratheon, who has been residing in Dorne for quite a while will also return to the show, this time portrayed by Nell Tiger Free. Still in Dorne we’ll get to meet DeObia Oparei as Areo Hotah, the captain of Dorne’s guards.
Other than the Martells, Enzo Cilenti has been announced as Yezzan zo Quaggaz, a slave trader from Yunkai and Jonathan Pryce as the High Sparrow, the High Septon of the Faith of the Seven.
Their introductory video is a nice reminder that while they are all actors that will portray characters beloved or hated by most everyone, they are still as excited as we are about the show. I think that is a good sign when it comes to television. Someone that loves a show is less likely to ruin it, right?
At SDCC, DC presented fans with A Night of DC Entertainment. There they aired the pilots for both Gotham and The Flash to some very eager fans. After the showings, the casts of Arrow, Constantine, The Flash and Gotham all gathered in one panel to answer questions and reveal news (then, post questioning, Matt Ryan managed to convince them to show the Constantine pilot). Here is a brief round up with new videos.

Constantine debuts a new trailer – which gives a lot more footage, but some similar shots from the pilot – such as the significant presence of Lucy Griffiths, who was cast as Liv Aberdine in the pilot. Newcomer Angelica Celaya had only just begun shooting for her role as Zed, so there aren’t any shots in the her in the trailer. However, it does give a glimpse into the atmosphere of the series.
The Spectre, Papa Midnight and more are expected to appear in the series, but no casting announcements have been made yet.
Arrow fans can get suitably excited for the reveal that Ra’s Al Ghul will make his appearance on Arrow – after many nods and hints – to be the main antagonist for Season 3. DC released an update to their Season 3 trailer with the news, which gave us a glimpse of the man being the League of Assassins. Additionally, it seems Ray Palmer will not only be seeking Oliver’s company, but Oliver’s city as well – since it appears he is attempting to re-brand the city to match the one in the DC Comics Universe.
Outside the trailer, it has also been confirmed that Ted Grant – otherwise known as Wildcat – is headed Laurel’s way.

The Flash hasn’t received a new trailer yet, but it has seen this clip which once again shows the connections it has to Arrow – the billboard advertises Palmer Technologies, which is the company of Ray Palmer (played by former Superman actor Brandon Routh)…who will be bidding for Queen’s Consolidated in season 3 of Arrow. Additionally, there are nice Easter eggs of a certain Gorilla, and the speedster himself…
Latest casting news include the fact that Wentworth Miller (Prison Break) has been cast as leader of the Rogues, Leonard Snart.

Gotham didn’t recieve a new trailer at SDCC either, but the official Youtube channel has been debuting some 1 minute teasers. In this one, we see Bruce attempting to conquer his fear with a trial by fire, Oswald being linked to his future criminal name Penguin, and…Arkham has been closed? Will we see the re-opening of the Asylum to house those who are criminally insane? That guy holding the cleaver in the featurette might just be its first inmate…
This is the moment fans like me have been waiting a long time to see. The first look at Wonder Woman for a live action film. Granted that film is Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice featuring an ensemble of heroes and not the stand alone Wonder Woman film DC/Warner Bros. have been denying us for so long. But, this is not time for that debate, because just look at her, I’m kinda in awe.
Released at Comic Con, this is the very first image of Gal Gadot’s portrayal of the Amazon Princess. When her casting was announced there was a lot of criticism about her body shape and whether she could bring the strong presence required for this well loved character. Well, I think she looks good, yes I would opt for a more muscular version, but there is no doubt she pulls of the look of a warrior. I’m loving the shiny armour, the boots and the bracelets, and squee, I spy a lasso. Honestly, I would have like to see the white stars on blue, and may be a little more red but I accept that it is not going to be exactly the same as the comic versions, I’m okay with that.
My friends this image alone has made me truly excited about this film, I have seen Superman and Batman before, it’s been done, this, this is what I wanted to see and I am not disappointed. Seriously, tears in my eyes and everything. Let’s just hope the writing does the character justice.
It is my great honour to present to you Princess Diana of Themyscira aka Wonder Woman in all her glory. (Click her for the larger image, seriously it’s even more awesome)
After teasing their fans with only small pieces of what would complete the concept art poster for Age of Ultorn, Marvel has finally released the last two parts of the puzzle. I have to say, it looks quite amazing, something I am not all that surprised about.
After releasing the Iron Man and Scarlett Witch, followed quickly by Black Widow and Captain America posters, the rest of our heroes’ (or not so much) posters finally got unveiled. I think I might have even spotted The Vision there.
Take a look at the concept art posters of the movie, a movie that we still have quite a while to wait for. I suppose if we’re feeling particularly optimistic we can say it’s less than a year and be happier for it. May 1st of next year can’t come sooner.
And for your convenience, a put together version of them all!
The Game of Thrones season 4 gag reels wins the throne of all gag reels. From Tywin forgetting his lines, a jig from Jaime and Tyrion to Oberyn smiling through the blood and nearly getting set on fire plus EVEN MORE!
