Sad news as it’s been announced that Lord Richard Attenborough, the actor and film director, has died just mere days before his 91st birthday.
Lord Attenborough forged a lengthy career both as an actor and director in film, making a big impression in Brighton Rock and The Great Escape amongst others before going behind the camera for the award winning Gandhi in 1983 and Chaplin in 1992. For many though he will be remembered as John Hammond the affable industrialist in Steven Spielberg’s smash hit Jurassic Park.

He was the older brother of Sir David Attenborough known for his work on the BBC’s nature programming.
The ice bucket challenge has been taking over the internet and raising lots of money for various charities and doesn’t seem to be going away any time soon. Everyone loves a bit of schadenfreude, but artist Zach Fischer had a different take on the craze though.
The artist is auctioning off a special piece of art with 100% of the money going to ALS research. For anyone who doesn’t know, ALS or Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is the same disease as MND or Motor neurone disease. For more details on the affliction go to ALSA.org or MNDassociation.org . Fischer’s art depicts Ghost Rider undergoing his own ice bucket challenge courtesy of Spiderman, you can view the full art on the listing.
An exciting development for fans of the Pokemon TCG out there. An image has been leaked and later confirmed of a Pokemon TCG app for the iPad!
Whether this will be cross platform is yet unknown, since the PokeTCG has been available online for quite some time already. However, with the huge popularity of the WoW-based card game Hearthstone, it would seem a smart move to connect as many players on as many platforms as possible.
The release date is currently unknown, however a source at Kotaku.com has revealed it may be as early as this year. So fingers crossed people!
The hugely successful Cologne-based Gamescom has come and gone, leaving a copious amount of impatient gamers in its wake, hungry for entertainment and millions of polygons. Whilst Sony and Microsoft held their own conferences within the early part of the week, Nintendo let their previously announced games do the talking for them, showing off heavy hitters Bayonetta 2, Super Smash Bros, and more. Some would, therefore, assume that the heightened media presence on Sony and Microsoft would give their games a healthy sales boost post event, but the results seem to have surprised everyone.
A recent article by MCV tells us that Amazon have released sales figures for the big three, post Gamescom, specifically for the increase in video games pre-orders for a particular platform. The increase in Wii U game pre-orders has come out on top, reporting an 8.67 percent rise, compared to those of the Playstation 4 (5.16 per cent) and Xbox One (2.81 per cent). The article also makes note that this is simply a percentage increase, meaning that, overall, Wii U may not hold the most amount of pre-orders when compared to its more powerful counterparts.
A more in-depth breakdown of pre-order increases are as follows:
This past Monday our favourite female zombie killer, Milla Jovovich, posted on her facebook page that the filming of the latest Resident Evil film will be delayed. The 38-year-old didn’t say for how long Resident Evil: The Last Chapter would be delayed for, but we couldn’t be happier about the reason seen below:
This was originally going to be a post to tell you how excited I am about flying to Cape Town, South Africa to begin working on Resident Evil: The Final Chapter.
But… My husband Paul and I just discovered that we are expecting another baby!!!
So after a lot of discussion, we thought it would be in everyone’s best interest to wait till the baby is born before we set out to try and tackle an RE movie. Between the stunt work and what will become my ever-expanding belly, we didn’t think pregnancy and zombie killing are the best combo! Lol! I imagine the only thing I’ll be killing in the near future is an endless supply of cupcakes. Yikes…
In all seriousness though, we want to make the best movie possible and that would be extremely difficult, to say the least, in my present condition.
I would like to take a moment to say thank you to everyone who has been working so hard on the movie in South Africa already and we are so looking forward to working with you all next summer. And when we arrive, it will hopefully be with the newest member of our little family! YAY!
Before I go, i want to also send one more HUGE thank you out to all my amazing fans who have been so patient waiting for the next instalment of the RE franchise! YOU ROCK!
Thanks so much for understanding everyone! All the best! -m
Milla Jovovich & husband Paul Anderson
Geek-Pride’s obvious congratulations go out to Milla Jovovich and her husband Paul S. Anderson, but I for one hope this won’t delay the latest film too much, a movie which was already slated for a 2016 release date.
Back in 2010 EA released Dante’s Inferno, loosely based on literature classic Inferno by Dante Aligheri, the first of three acts that make up his work The Divine Comedy, with the player taking control of Dante. The game casts Dante as a crusader who despite his faith, has committed numerous atrocities during the Third Crusade. He ventures into the depths of Hell to free the soul of his beloved Beatrice, encountering the poet Virgil along the way, who acts as his guide.
Basing a game, a brutal action oriented game, on a literature classic was definitely a left field move and whilst it definitely owed a lot to the hit franchise God of War, it featured crisp production values and a dark and disturbing tone, along with an impressive design aesthetic and creature design, thanks in part to the warped genius of concept artist Wayne Barlowe. Whilst there’s no news on a follow up yet, one fan Tal Peleg, who just happens to be Senior Cinematics Animator at Naughty Dog (the developer behind Uncharted and The Last Of US) made his own trailer for a follow up, and it’s pretty amazing.
Peleg worked on the trailer inbetween jobs at the developer with the help of friends.
Two brand new videos have arrived for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and the new installment in the action-RPG franchise just keeps looking better. First up is the unboxing of the standard edition of the game and all the wonderful things that come with it. Included in the standard edition box is:
Blu-ray game disc (DVDs on PC)
Exclusive official soundtrack CD
Official, developer created ‘Witcher Universe Compendium’
Detailed map of the in-game world
Unique sticker set
A stylish, protective sleeve
You can pre-order both Standard and Collector editions at Game and Amazon
Perhaps more importantly though, a new 35 minute gameplay clip has been released. Following on from previous footage that showed protagonist Geralt .doing battle with a griffin, the new video shows off more of the game’s narrative ability and gives us an expanded look at the large world of the Witcher 3. We get to see a bit more questing, some fast travel and, of course, some of the fluid combat that has evolved throughout the series. The Witcher games have, at least in my opinion, got better with every iteration and The Wild Hunt looks set to continue this trend with another excellent delving into the world of Geralt of Rivia, the world itself being shown off even more than we’ve seen before. It’s hard not to get excited for what could well be the definitive Witcher. Check out the footage below:
Ever wanted to watch a Fish hadouken? Well, now you can… Kind of.
In the recent trend of watching fish play games, started by Fish Plays Pokémon, the latest game to continue this is Fish Plays Street Fighter. Yeah, really. It sounds absolutely ridiculous but, even though I’m not the biggest Street Fighter fan out there, I was mildly entertained whilst watching Guile fight Dhalsim. Whilst I never thought I’d see one fishing managing to throw their on-screen opponent, I’d happily wager a good amount of money that they’ll soon be able to pull off more impressive moves than I ever could.
This is all achieved by pointing a camera at the fish ( two fish to be precise- Aquarius and Robert The Bruce) , tracking where the fish are and equally dividing areas into different button inputs. To the individual with far too much time on his/her hands, I salute you. Come check out the stream here.
Can a fish even pull a hadouken off?
UPDATE (21/08/14) Aquarius (p1) has just picked up a sponsor, professional fighting game team Always Godlike.
Robots are terrifying and will eventually use us as batteries. Don’t argue with me , I saw it in that documentary called “The Matrix” . The new step towards that horrific dystopia is Jibo.

Okay, so it’s a glorified iPhone with a cute interface, but the truly astounding (read “pants-shittingly-scream-inducing”) fact is that it has the capacity to learn. Another worry is that the constant connection to WiFi would mean seamless data transferral between Jibo and… SkyNet? .
As you saw, it’s currently in the crowdfunding process, so all you have to do is ignore this post and not put any money in and we’ll all be fine.
Well. For now.
Is Jibo an alabaster herald of the apocalypse? let us know below or on twitter (@GeekPride1) or Facebook
